Meet Jesse (Power of Insta)

So I was on Instagram a few months back and came across the profile of Jesse McInnes and noticed he was reading a bunch of books that I’ve either read, or was reading or that were collecting dust while waiting on my bookshelf. I decided to message him and ask about his choice of reading material and what inspired him to read and share some of the top quotes and motivational messages from the books he was reading on his social media platform, Instagram. He certainly inspired me to start sharing more of my faith based reading on my social media as well as the day-to-day life of me.

Somehow, with the mad time difference, we managed to maintain a conversation over a few weeks, talking about God, Worship and many other things and I thought it would be great to ask him a few questions, feature him on my blog and get some self-help or motivational tips from him!

So here goes;

How old are you?
19 years young

Where are you in the world?
Sunshine Coast, Australia

What do you currently do for work?
Entrepreneur and investor.  See my bio here: https://about.me/jessemcinnes

So, when did you begin your journey with Faith?
Grew up in Christian home, wasn’t until age of 16 I really started to make a commitment decision to live for Christ myself

Can you remember the first conversation you had about becoming a Christian?
It was a gradual decision, growing up in a Christian home I decided to go against my family tradition and try and prove Christ wrong and evolution right.
After years of trying to prove that and reading everything I could I about evolution, Christianity and religions, it become clear to me that Christ is the true way.

How comfortable are you with sharing your faith, on and offline?
Never used to be but now more confident than ever. I guess that confidence comes with truly knowing deep within yourself that he is the way and you can’t not share that with others.

In your current job, do you feel able to share the gospel or involve God in the work that you do?
Yes I am mostly the CEO a lot of the time and am fortunate to hold a lot of the influence which helps when discussing my beliefs.

What are your views about Social Media being another platform to share the gospel?
Social media is incredible and needs to be used more by Christians. At the same time it is also a huge platform for people to criticise Christ. Therefore it is more important than ever to stand strong in your faith. Look at Justin Bieber, he has really started to come out about his faith and even in his insta bio has a link to a Hillsong worship song. He has 100 million followers on insta so look at that influence he can have!!

Top Christian book, and why?
The barbarian way by Erwin McManus.  This book reminds us the real call of Christ which is to follow him and live like him and not get caught up in religious activities but to go back to what he said in the gospel.  “Follow me”. It’s all about living an untamed faith.

Most inspiring Bible Verse, and why?
Roman’s 12:12 - Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
It speaks a lot to me past experience and connects with me

Your go-to Bible Verse for motivation?

Do you have any prayer requests?
Yes: That more people will understand the value and power they have inside of themselves.

Massive Thanks to Jesse for this, keep doing what you're doing and will certainly be praying that prayer!

BIG LOVE

Matt

Featured Post: Bag of S**t

Over the last few weeks I have been inspired to use this activity in work I do with young people and it has really hit me how powerful it can be, I wanted to make a short post to share how I had gone along with the activity and how young people responded but thought it was best to share the blog post that inspired me from my best friends blog  ‘Diaries of a Black Dog’ you can read below. Bag of S**T “I had a counselling appointment today at 12:30pm, got to 12pm and that’s when the nerves really start kicking in, I have nothing to talk about, it’s going to be awkward, I’m not in the mood to talk, I CAN’T do it… Anyway I went and we ended up sitting on the floor writing on stones…sounds weird I know but believe me it was POWERFUL. So basically the idea was for me write all the negative thoughts and negative things I think are attached to me on stones and put them in a little bag (we named the bag of shit) and then carry that bag around with me. When someone puts me on the spot...

Pressure

As some of you are already aware, I’m in my final year of my BA (Hons) Youth Work degree which I’ve been completing with the Open University. Due to finish on June 12th after a 3hr final exam (which I’m already anxious for). Over the last five years of studying, lots has changed and I’ve studied through lots of different climates and seasons of my life. I’ve put myself under lots of pressure to complete assignments as well as times of taking off the pressure and being a bit slack in my studies. I have to admit though, that over last few months, I have tried to take the pressure off for the long-term but turn it up maybe a week or so before the deadline, since doing this my assignment marks have improved. It’s certainly not healthy to not put any pressure on myself to complete my assignments, especially when it’s a self-motivated degree, which I need to be so self-disciplined in. I just wanted to write a little note to remind myself and inspire others to just turn down t...

Perspective

"Sometimes a change of Perspective is all it takes to see the light." - Dan Brown It's so true that we all see things differently to one another, yet it can be really hard sometimes to believe that someone is seeing something from a different perspective to you. It can cause conflict and can damage relationships if left un-dealt with.  Working with young people has taught me so much about myself and also given me tools to support friends and family sometimes facing difficulty in agreeing or in understanding what is happening for the other person.  A worker last week told me this useful exercise to explain perspective to young people, put a box out in front of them and ask them to draw what they can see, from where they are sat.  (The box might have numbers/drawings or words on, it doesn't really matter). You, the worker (or second person taking part) then draw the box as you see it from a different angle of course. The two dra...
